Fort Whoop Up

Fort Whoop-Up is an authentic replica of a late nineteenth century fur-trading post located in Lethbridge’s Oldman River valley. The fort is made up of log structures, including a period trade room, operational blacksmith’s forge, living quarters, two bastions, a small animal enclosure, and expansive central square with a tipi, fire pit, and replicas of a functional canon, a Métis handcart, and a bull wagon. Outside the replica, the fort also features a fenced horse pasture, fields, and a trail through the coulees. The fort also features a modern interpretive centre with a permanently installed Blackfoot- gallery exhibition, a small theatre room, a multi-purpose meeting room, and a gift shop. In terms of size, the replica fort covers approximately 34,000 square feet, including both indoor spaces within the walls of the replica and 257,300 square feet in fenced fields outside the replica. The parking lot has space for 50 vehicles, including larger parking spaces for busses or trailers.
